Foot Function Workshop

Principle 4 Osteopathy hosted a Foot Function Workshop on the weekend with Osteopathic students covering how the foot functions during the gait cycle. Heath Williams (Osteopath at Principle 4 Osteopathy) and Ben McChesney (Osteopath at Balance Osteopathy) discussed the biomechanics and assessment of the lower limb relative to the walking cycle.

The development of lower limb sports injuries, low back pain and musculoskeletal symptoms were explained in terms of how biomechanical problems in the foot and ankle complex can cause symptoms in these other areas. The pros and cons of barefoot and regular running footwear and technique were also discussed. Students were given some simple functional screening tehniques that can be integrated into the clinical assessment procedures with patients.
