Osteopathy works…

Osteopathy works within an evidence-based model of treatment which incorporates effective measures to improve pain and mobility after an injury, strain, or just muscle tightness and soreness that is holding you back from getting on with what you enjoy doing (Or perhaps realistically getting back to your normal job).

However, one principle of Osteopathy is ‘the body is a unit’. Consistent with this principle, the body has an amazing ability to hide problematic areas so that you can continue to function. We often find in the course of treatment areas of someone’s body that feel quite stiff and immobile and yet the person is not feeling pain in this area and is moving reasonably well. However, in order to continue to move well in spite of such restrictions (e.g. a stiff ankle) the body must create compensatory movement in other parts of the body (e.g. low back). Ever wondered why after an ankle twist or sprain we find our back is playing up months later without apparent cause?

Anyway, the point of all this is that due to time spent sitting at desks, driving or even resting in less than ideal positions, the less than optimal fitness regime, and even dietary insults we put on our body, we can acquire postural imbalances, tightness and or subtle joint restrictions that can add ‘stress’ to our bodies that we then must compensate for, and overcome in our daily activities.

Having a regular ‘tune up’ is a great opportunity for your Osteopath to screen your body for any dysfunction, imbalance or tightness and reduce the impact of this through Osteopathic treatment. We can also discuss other ways of improving your health and fitness. Overall, this may help you move more easily and feel more comfortable.
