Ben McChesney – Osteopath
BSc. B.App. Sc. (Osteopathy), MSc. Sport & Exercise Rehabilitation, MAOA, FAFS
Ben McChesney is the founder of Balance Osteopathy. As an Australian trained Osteopath (RMIT 2002) with over 15 years experience, his past experiences within progressive, movement oriented, multidisciplinary clinics fostered a desire to custom a similar progressive space in Melbourne, Australia.
This is why at Balance Osteopathy, the treatment space deliberately enables seamless transition between functional movement assessment in an open space to hands-on table based osteopathic assessment and treatment. This allows us to tailor both assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to the needs of the individual being treated.
We don’t just treat problems (e.g. shoulder pain), we treat people, and every person has specific movement goals (desk worker, versus demands of tennis), family demands, background stress, nutritional context, sleep, training demands, and recovery meaning the assessment must be tailored with this in mind if it is to be effective. Furthermore, the clinic has a collaborative multi-displinary team approach to best serve the needs of these people.
Ben has 15 + years experience including 6 years spent in London, working with many clients and athletes at Pure Sports Medicine, Harrods occupational health department and other clinics. He completed an MSc in sport and exercise rehabilitation at St Mary’s University (Twickenham, 2010), and worked as part of an internship program within premiership league Fulham Football Club.
A diploma of Applied Functional Science followed in 2010, learning functional assessment and rehabilitation approaches from Gary Gray and Dr David Tiberio in Michigan, USA. Ben lectured in several UK based Osteopathic institutions on the topics of integrating functional biomechanics, assessment and rehabilitation with Osteopathy and now continues to lecture at Victoria University.
Ben enjoys applying this knowledge to help get people out of discomfort and moving better. His aim with treatment is to create an individualised rehabilitation approach for the person, of any age or ability, relative to their goals whether it be doing a bit of gardening, walking, or getting back to enjoying a loved sport or activity.
