Remedial Massage at our St Kilda Rd Clinic
Remedial massage focuses specific therapeutic effect rather than a general therapeutic effect. It can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow. Specialised techniques such as trigger point therapy, myofascial release, deep tissue massage and stretching are used in order to improve the mobility of muscles, ligaments and tendons to the affected area. It is a holistic approach whereby the practitioner will endeavour to identify the origin of the biomechanical dysfunction, thereby treating the cause and the symptoms.
Benefits of remedial massage include aiding the elimination of toxins from muscles, increased blood flow and calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort. Chronic conditions such as ongoing sporting injuries, frozen shoulder, RSI, tennis elbow, stress and fatigue all benefit from remedial massage.
Sports massage is specifically geared towards the sporting individual. Goals of a sports massage are to help prevent and relieve soft tissue injury, restore mobility to injured muscle tissue. It can be quite firm with the aim being to relieve the stress and strain built up in the body’s muscles during exercise. Sports massage helps maintain good physical condition.
Pre/Post Event Massage
If you have a specific sporting event coming up a pre-event massage can be the perfect compliment to your training. Ideally performed within 24hrs before the event the goal is to increase circulation, flexibility and mental clarity to improve your overall performance on the day.
Post-event massage can assist with a quick and pain-free recovery and involve assessment of potential injuries so that a treatment/rehabilitation programme can be prescribed promptly. The focus is to relax your muscle tone, increase your circulation and restore your mobility/flexibility in order to return to training more quickly with decreased stiffness and soreness.
Life is busy. Sometimes we just need to stop, relax and take check of our bodies. A relaxation massage is highly beneficial for increasing circulation to aid removal of toxins built up in the body from stress thereby removing tension and ‘de-stressing’ the body and mind. Highly recommended also due to its benefits of boosting the immune system and promoting good sleep.
